Right-size models for the work
Defaulting to the most capable (expensive) model for every task is misallocation—like paying a principal engineer to do junior work; right-size the model to the work (Attila Vágó).
Because having solved coding — at least according to Boris Cherny — we’re running into new, more challenging problems. And as much as I’d like them to be, these aren’t just another AI subscription, another MCP or a clever agent away.
- Many agentic-engineering problems are process, codebase, and product problems—not fixable by a “better model” dropdown alone.
